creamy taco dressing |

About a month ago I made a taco dressing. In the dressing, I use Dyno-moms secret taco seasoning. I made a big batch so now I always have it on hand.

Since then, this has been my go-to dressing. I have made it just about every week and have not gotten sick of it yet. I did slightly tweak it though to make it creamy. It almost seems silly to write a whole new post just for the one change I did, but the creamy version is just as good and deserves it's own post.

1/4 - 1/2 cup sour cream

Whisk all ingredients together.

Yes, that was it. Like I said, I didn't really *need* to write a whole new post. Enjoy!

I am not a particularly crafty person, nor am I in any way organized. So the fact that I did a craft about organization, encompassing both traits, is quite impressive (to me).

I have wanted to have a one year wall calendar for quite a while to help me with organization, but I just never made it a priority. Instead I would download tons of apps thinking they would work. I counted. On my phone I have 18 apps to help organize.

bacon, chicken and chipotle macaroni and cheese |

Lately I have been trying to incorporate einkorn products in our diet. I have wanted to try it since reading the book Wheat Belly last year. Einkorn is a ancient wheat that is supposedly easier to digest.

We used a whole wheat penne. Although it tastes a bit denser, it is not much heavier than another whole wheat pasta. I used this recipe by Alton Brown as a base and then doctored it up.

~ 8 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 box (12 oz) penne
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon powdered mustard
1/2 tablespoon chipotle chili powder
3 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon paprika - this is my favorite favorite favorite paprika
1 large egg
~ 2 cups cheddar, shredded
~ 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken
~1.5 cups green beans
Sea salt
Black pepper

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Cook bacon however you like. I like to bake it in the oven so that I can do other things while it is cooking.
For the rest of the dish, I followed Alton's directions almost to a T. The only difference was that I added my bacon and chicken after the cheese and I left off the bread crumbs.

This was a great recipe and a great way to use up chicken that is not boring. We get in a rut of having the same things, so this way a nice change.

Do you like the taste of plain water?

I know many people do not. Which makes drinking water throughout the day a chore. There are mixes that you can add to water to give it flavor, but most are filled with lots of chemicals.

But I found a product that makes it easy to make your own flavored water and is much healthier. It is called the ZingAnything Aqua Zinger.

This is a guest post from my sister, Julie. I think this is my first time having a guest post and since she doesn't have a blog, her first blog post as well! Thanks for contributing.

Hello suzyhomemaker fans, I am Suzy’s sister, Julie. Thank you Suzy for letting me participate.

I belong to a small cooking club. We started with cooking recipes from Julia Childs' cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and have now moved on to cooking Greek food.
Our first Greek dinner was just a couple weeks ago. The menu consisted of:

  • Roasted leg of lamb with couscous
  • Stuffed mussels
  • Salad with Greek salad dressing
  • Pitas
  • Cake

All very yummy! My contribution was the salad and pitas.

I improvised on the salad veggies, but the dressing was followed to the letter, and then doubled.

The recipe for this dressing can be found on

I put everything in a mason jar a shook it up. Easy mixing, easy storage for leftovers. The lemon and mustard make it tangy, and a little goes a long way. This will become a dressing staple in our house.

The pitas were especially fun and easy to do. The recipe for the pitas can be found on

I did divide the balls of dough one more time than the recipe states to make them a bit smaller. The pitas were an extra side dish and by making them smaller everyone was able to have a taste. These will also become a staple.

It made me laugh each time they puffed up and formed the pocket.

Thanks again Suz for letting me share.
